GAITHERSBURG, MD: On Wednesday, September 3, 2025, a bipartisan group of House

members unveiled a compromise bill banning stock trading by Members of Congress and their families. The legislation, the Restore Trust in Congress Act, was introduced by Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX-21), also penalizes individuals who violate restrictions on trading or owning investments under section 13152. At the direction of the supervising ethics office, violators must pay a fee equal to ten percent of the covered investment's value and forfeit any profits earned from a transaction.

Chris Burnett, candidate for U.S. House of Representatives in Maryland's 6th Congressional District says: "You cannot lead or set the conditions for others to succeed if you are driven solely by your own selfish financial interests!"
