GAITHERSBURG, MD: The United States executed a swift military strike in Venezuela earlier today, apprehending President Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, before transporting them out of the country. Maduro and other Venezuelan officials were previously indicted in 2020 on charges of narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine guns and destructive devices. Attorney General Bondi declared through the social platform X that Maduro and Flores have been indicted in the Southern District of New York on new allegations, with Flores named as a co-defendant and both facing charges of cocaine importation conspiracy, among other counts.
“I firmly support decisive actions to safeguard American families from the scourge of illicit drugs," said Burnett. "Whether through intercepting and destroying flagless vessels employed by drug traffickers or successfully executing arrests, we must ensure drug traffickers and other malicious actors are held accountable. Without genuine consequences, effective deterrence can't exist."
Chris Burnett is a retired Marine Corps officer and national security lawyer running for
Congress in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.
