GAITHERSBURG, MD: President Trump signed the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025 into law, reauthorizing and modifying the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) programs that are focused on substance use disorders, overdoses, and mental health.

“The nation marks the enactment of the SUPPORT for Patients and Communities

Reauthorization Act, a bill designed to combat the devastating impact of illegal fentanyl and related substances on American communities,” said Burnett. “I express pride in the cross-party collaboration that produced this legislation, which strengthens first responders, expands recovery services, and improves treatment accessibility for those struggling with substance use disorders.”

The SUPPORT for Patients and Communities Reauthorization Act of 2025 broadens a first responder resource program to purchase medications and medical devices for treating non-opioid overdoses, extending an employment services program for individuals in recovery to include transportation assistance, and temporarily authorizing a regional technical center to support the National Peer-Run Training and Technical Assistance Center for Addiction Recovery Support.
