GAITHERSBURG, MD: On December 1, 2025, President Trump signed the Medal of Honor Act, bipartisan legislation that increases the monthly special pension for living Medal of Honor recipients from $1,406.73 to $8,333.33 and sets the monthly special pension for their surviving spouses at $1,406.73.
"It is long overdue for Congress to recognize our service members," said Burnett. "We ask our service members to serve and fight for our nation. As a Marine Corps veteran, I know that receiving the Medal of Honor is extremely difficult but is a true honor. As we approach the holiday season, we should be doing more to help our military members who are struggling or have struggled due to deployment.
The Medal of Honor Act passed the House Representatives unanimously and recently passed the Senate by unanimous consent.
Chris Burnett is a retired Marine Corps officer and national security lawyer running for
Congress in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.
