GAITHERSBURG, MD: The Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division filed federal lawsuits against six states, including Maryland, for failing to provide statewide voter registration lists upon request.
"I continue to support every vote being counted to ensure transparency and accountability in America's electoral system," said Burnett. "This lawsuit promotes transparency in our electoral system to help ensure that cheating isn't occurring. Furthermore, this isn't a Democrat versus Republican issue, this is an American issue."
According to the lawsuits, Congress tasked the Attorney General with enforcing the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and the Help America Vote Act (HAVA), which Congress designed to ensure states maintain accurate, effective voter registration systems and keep their voter rolls properly updated.
Chris Burnett is a retired Marine Corps officer and national security lawyer running for
Congress in Maryland’s 6th Congressional District.
